Introduction to Georgetown's Initial 2024 Recruiting Targets

May 2024 · 7 minute read

The direct contact period for college coaches with 2024 prospects began at midnight on June 16. While Georgetown does not have any 2023 commits yet, the 2024 class is expected to be a bigger focus for the program than 2023, as they are expected to have more open roster spots to fill next recruiting cycle.

Locally, the 2024 class has a chance to be a special group coming out of the DMV. With Georgetown revamping its coaching staff and placing a greater emphasis on bringing in coaches with DMV ties like Clinton Crouch and Kevin Nickelberry, the 2024 class will be the time for Georgetown to prove it can reel in top talent from the DMV again. So far, they have failed to do so. 2024 is their chance to reverse the narrative that has plagued this program for a long time now.

Some names from the DMV to watch in 2024 are: Isaiah Abraham, Trentyn Flowers, Donnie Freeman, Darren Harris, Jaeden Mustaf, Patrick Ngongba, Khani Rooths, AJ Swinton, Derik Queen, and Bryson Tucker.

Please note: This is meant as an introductory look at Georgetown’s initial recruiting targets in 2024. I am not saying any of these players are likely to end up at Georgetown. This list will grow. Many of the names here will not last long as realistic targets for the Hoyas, for better or worse. This is simply an exercise for those who care about recruiting to help familiarize them with some names to know moving forward.

Here is the complete list of 2024 players that Georgetown has reached out to since midnight on June 16, with notes on a few. Rankings are according to 247Sports’ composite rankings unless unavailable.

Isaiah Abraham, SF (Paul VI / Team Takeover EYBL)

6’7”, 180 pounds

Composite Ranking N/A (#86 on 247Sports)

Abraham and PF/C Patrick Ngongba have been on Georgetown’s radar for a while, likely due to the fact that Abrahams’s aunt (and Ngongba’s mother) Tajama is an assistant coach for Georgetown women’s basketball. The pair have already taken a visit to Georgetown last year, and were at several Georgetown games last season.

Abraham and Ngongba both transferred to PVI from Highland School in Virginia. It will be interesting to see how they both handle the step up in competition in the WCAC.

Luke Bamgboye, PF/C (Mt. Carmel / Team Thrill UAA)

6’10”, 190 pounds

#63 overall

Ty Bevins, SG (Gwynn Park HS / New World 3SSB)

6’5”, 185 pounds

Composite Ranking N/A

Tayshawn Bridges, CG (Milwaukee Academy of Science / Mac Irvin Fire EYBL)

6’2”, 170 pounds

#58 overall

James Brown, C (St. Rita / Meanstreets EYBL)

6’9”, 210 pounds

#27 overall

Elliott Cadeau, PG (Link Academy / New York Lightning)

6’1”, 165 pounds

#7 overall

In this writer’s opinion, Georgetown got in way too late on Cadeau, who is arguably the top point guard in the 2024 class. He will have his pick of the litter.

Rob Dockery, SF (Jackson-Reed HS / Team Loaded 3SSB)

6’7”, 195 pounds

Composite Ranking N/A (#53 on 247Sports)

Dockery was teammates with Darren Buchanan, who wound up committing to Virginia Tech over Georgetown after the Hoyas ramped up their interest too late for Buchanan’s liking. Georgetown hasn’t offered Dockery yet, and probably doesn’t have room for him, but if they swing and miss on other wings in 2024, history could repeat itself if they try to jump in later with Dockery, like they did with Buchanan. Maryland has offered Dockery as of this week…I don’t see why Georgetown can’t either.

Bryce Dortch, SF (Brimmer and May School / Mass Rivals)

6’7”

Rankings N/A

Rodrigo Farias, PG (The Skill Factory Prep)

6’2”

Rankings N/A

Boogie Fland, PG (Archbishop Stepinac / PSA Cardinals)

6’3”, 165 pounds

#13 overall

Same thing as Elliot Cadeau. Not sure what the Hoyas’ coaching staff thinks they can do to stand out in a crowd for Fland, with the state of the program as it is currently.

Trentyn Flowers, SF (Rosedale Christian Academy / Team Durant)

6’8”, 180 pounds

#8 overall

If I had to make one guess for the one top-10 player that Georgetown inexplicably makes the final three for each year and then winds up losing out on, it would be Flowers. Georgetown was one of his first unofficial visits last summer, when he was still at Huntington Prep. Since then, he’s transferred to Sierra Canyon (CA) and now is going back home to play at Rosedale Christian Academy near Baltimore. He now plays for Team Durant, whose director, Osman Bangura, is close with Kevin Nickelberry. Flowers is a stud, and likely will end up at a blue blood, but I could see him keeping the Hoyas around for a little while.

Donnie Freeman, PF (St. John’s College HS / Team Takeover)

6’9”, 200 pounds

#25 overall

Freeman is one of the more realistic local targets that the Hoyas should be pursuing. He has expressed interest in visiting Georgetown this summer, but it appears both Maryland (where Freeman has taken an unofficial to recently) and Syracuse are ahead in this race for now. Clinton Crouch appears to be the lead here. Should be a good test for his recruiting chops in his first year as a full-fledged assistant coach for Georgetown.

Kyle Greene Jr., PG (Pace Academy / Upward Stars SE)

6’3”, 180 pounds

Composite Ranking N/A (#69 on 247Sports)

Georgetown’s coaching staff has spent a good amount of time watching this kid’s games this summer. They certainly seem to be interested in the 6-foot-3 guard, so this appears to be one to watch, especially if the Hoyas miss out on Marvel Allen.

Darren Harris, SG (Paul VI / Team Takeover)

6’6”, 195 pounds

#49 overall

Harris is one of the best players on what is going to be a loaded PVI team this season. He has good size for his position and is one of the best shooters in the nation already. Harris is being recruited by Duke, Maryland, Miami, and Ohio State among others, but Georgetown has maintained consistent contact with him so far. He would be a great get in the 2024 class with his blend of length and shooting.

Jadyn Harris, SF (Long Island Lutheran / Team Thrill)

6’7”, 190 pounds

Rankings N/A

Karter Knox, SF (Tampa Catholic / Florida Rebels)

6’5”, 180 pounds

#10 overall

Drew McKenna, SF (Glenelg Country School / Team Thrill)

6’6”, 185 pounds

Rankings N/A

One of the players that Georgetown has been after the hardest so far this summer. McKenna, perhaps not-so-coincidentally, has seen his recruitment explode overall in the last month, so the Hoyas have their work cut out for them here.

Tyler McKinley, PF (Walnut Hills / Ohio Crossover)

6’8”, 210 pounds

#60 overall

Paul McNeil, SG (Richmond HS / Garner Road Basketball)

6’6”, 185 pounds

#20 overall

Caleb Middleton, C (Western Reserve / BABC)

6’10”, 195 pounds

Rankings N/A

Vyctorius Miller, CG (Compass Prep / West Coast Elite)

6’5”, 170 pounds

#9 overall

Georgetown was one of the first offers for Miller back in February 2021, and he has seen his stock rise steadily and quickly since then. Could he be the first Georgetown commit from California since James Akinjo? It’s unlikely, but he’s worth continuing to pursue.

Yves Missi, C (West Nottingham Academy / PSA Cardinals)

6’10”, 210 pounds

#31 overall

Patrick Ngongba*, PF/C (Paul VI / Team Takeover EYBL)

6’10”, 215 pounds

Rankings N/A

See Isaiah Abraham section. Georgetown hasn’t been officially linked to Ngongba since the June 16 live contact period, but it’s hard to believe they would reach out to Abraham and not Ngongba at this stage, so I am including him here.

Adam Njie, CG (Hillcrest Prep / Riverside Church Hawks UAA)

6’2”, 175 pounds

Rankings N/A

Kelvin Odih, G (La Salle Academy / RI Elite EYBL)

6’3”

Rankings N/A

Josh Ojuri, G (La Salle Academy / RI Elite EYBL)

6’0”

Rankings N/A

Derik Queen, PF/C (Montverde Academy / Team Thrill)

6’9”, 220 pounds

#6 overall

Queen is ridiculously smooth for his age and size. He glides out there on the court, which is saying something for someone his size. Not crazy athletic, but a great operator in the post, and as he continues to work on his body, he will be a monster in college. Think Georgetown will get squeezed out of this race eventually, because of how much attention Queen is/will garner, but he’d be a dream here.

Trey Rezendes, PG (East Providence HS / RI Elite EYBL)

5’11”

Rankings N/A

Rob Wright III, PG (Neumann Goretti / Team Final)

6’0”, 165 pounds

Rankings N/A
