More than 1,500 Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) customers were in the dark on Tuesday amid a large-scale power outage.

The outage started around 8 p.m. and is impacting residents in west Vacaville, including areas of Pleasants Valley Road, Alamo Drive, Foothill Drive, North Orchard Avenue, West Monte Vista Avenue and Eldridge Avenue.

The cause of the outage was not immediately clear. A PG&E crew was dispatched to assess the cause of the outage, and the utility estimates service will be restored around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

No other information was immediately available.

The outage occurred during a multi-day heat wave, which saw temperatures spike well above 100 degrees in Vacaville and other parts of Solano County, according to preliminary data offered by the National Weather Service.

Power outages during heat waves are not unusual, as residents and businesses increase their use of power-hungry air conditioning units and other cooling appliances, which cause strain on the electrical grid.

The California Independent System Operator (California ISO) encourages residents and businesses to pre-cool their dwellings to 78 degrees or higher during the afternoon and evening hours to prevent strain on the energy grid.
